Gareth and Jodie Raise Awareness for Epilepsy

Gareth one of our engineers and his wife Jodie’s lives changed drastically when their daughters, Scarlett and Eleri were diagnosed with EAST Syndrome. The strength and resilience of these incredible girls is awe-inspiring. Their daily reality is challenging, but the unwavering support they have received has truly been a lifeline. The compassion and care they receive is a testament to the power of community and the importance of advocating for those in need.

The girls started having seizures at such a young age; Scarlett and Eleri were only 2 months old when her first seizure occurred. Seizures can manifest in different ways, depending on which part of the brain is involved, but both girls had seizures including tonic clonic, focal, absence, tonic and atonic seizures.

Fortunately, they were able to get help from a variety of professionals who helped them understand how best to manage each seizure type. They also put both girls on 3 anti-epileptic medications which helped reduce the frequency of their seizures significantly over time although they still experience episodes.

Gareth and Jodie continue to do everything they can so that Scarlett and Eleri can live amazing lives despite this condition affecting them so greatly at such young ages. They are hopeful that one day there may be a cure found for East Syndrome so that these brave little warriors don't have to suffer any more than necessary."

On March 26 annually, people from around the world wear purple in support of epilepsy awareness. This year, join us in wearing purple and help promote epilepsy awareness in your community. Let us continue to stand with these amazing girls and champion their voices.
