Buying guide
Work through these steps with our team to find a hoist that suits the person and your home.
We'll look at the person's needs, the transfers involved and the space at home, working alongside any occupational therapist.
Make sure there's room to manoeuvre the hoist and enough clearance under the bed and chairs for the hoist's legs.
Match the hoist's safe working load and lifting range to the person, then choose the right sling type and size.
Make sure carers are shown how to use the hoist safely, and arrange regular inspection and servicing from the start.

Common questions
Answers to some of the questions we're asked most often about mobile hoists.
A mobile hoist is a wheeled lifting frame with a motorised arm that lifts a person in a sling, so a carer can move them safely between the bed, chair, toilet or floor.
A mobile hoist needs no installation and can be moved between rooms, but it needs floor space to manoeuvre. A ceiling hoist takes up no floor space and is often easier for one carer to use, but needs a track or a freestanding gantry. We'll help you compare both at your free assessment.
The hoist's legs need to fit under the bed. Most of our mobile hoists have legs around 105–115mm high, and low-base versions are available for beds with less clearance. We check this at the assessment.
Yes. Hoists are lifting equipment, so we recommend a thorough examination by a competent person every six months, in line with LOLER (the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998), along with the manufacturer's recommended servicing.
If you have a disability or a long-term illness, you may qualify for VAT relief on an eligible mobile hoist. You complete a simple eligibility declaration and we remove the VAT from your quotation.
