A 'SPARK' Back Into Life: How SPARK Community Space is Changing Lives

Thursday 20th December 2024

If you follow us on social media, you may have seen our visits to SPARK Community Space located in Southsea, Portsmouth. We recently visited them again to meet the team, enjoy a lovely hot drink, and discover the magical work they do for the local community. SPARK is one of our trusted partners at Solent Mobility Centre, and in today's blog, we'll be giving you all the insights on what SPARK does and how they could help you!

Who are they?

SPARK Community Space is a local charity based in Southsea, Portsmouth. Their community shop is open 3 times a week where people can come and grow together. Their community space is open to all and is a place to belong regardless of who you are. SPARK's main goal is to welcome anyone who feels that they have been left out by society for any reason, they aim to put a 'spark' back into people's lives.

Their founder Becki, launched the charity back in 2020 and their community shop opened in April 2023. SPARK had always been a long-term idea for Becki and after officially launching the charity and community space, she began to spark back into her own life!

The Community Shop

SPARK opened their community charity shop last April, welcoming everyone in the local visit to pop in and discover their community safe space. SPARK Community Space contains a lovely charity shop where you can buy stylish clothes, fun games, kids' toys, and many other wonderful items at an affordable price that helps SPARK continue to support our local residents.

Unlike other charity shops, SPARK also has a cafe area where anyone can pop in for a hot cuppa and a slice of delicious cake donated by The Tenth Hole. They also offer yummy cheese toasties, popular with the SPARK regulars. The best part is that their food and drink are paid on a 'pay what you can afford' basis allowing anyone, regardless of budget, to enjoy a hot drink and a snack with friendly company.

All donations received go towards an incredible cause and keep the SPARK Community Space going.

Volunteering

SPARK is always looking for new volunteers to join their friendly team and give people a place to belong. If you're over 18 and looking to support your local community, then SPARK is the place for you!

Volunteering for SPARK Community Space allows people to gain new skills, boost confidence, make friends, and train in a supportive and progressive atmosphere. Get in contact with their team by emailing info@sparkcommunityspace.co.uk to find out more.

Our Visit

Some of our team recently visited SPARK Community Space in their shop to experience the magic of the charity for ourselves and we loved it! We enjoyed some cake and had a browse round the charity shop whilst meeting the team and volunteers who have a huge positive impact on the Portsmouth society. You can see more of our visit below:
