Invisible No More | Invisible Disabilities Week 2026

This week is Invisible Disabilities Week, an international campaign that brings support and awareness to those living with conditions that may not be seen with the eye.

Approximately 28% of people in the UK are disabled, and of these, around 70-80% live with an invisible condition.

Invisible disabilities are more common than you may realise, and they can massively impact a persons day-to-day life even if you can't physically see their struggle.

At Solent Mobility Centre, we support all disabilities, visible or not. This week, we're spreading awareness for Invisible Disabilities Week 2026.

Keep reading to find out more about invisible disabilities, what they are, and what support is available to help you or someone you know who may be living with a hidden condition.

What are Invisible Disabilities?

An invisible disability is a physical, mental, or neurological condition that cannot be seen from the outside. These conditions can limit and challenge a person's movements, senses, or activities.

Types of Invisible Disabilities

Chronic Health Conditions:

• Fibromyalgia

• Lupus

• Endometriosis

Neurological Conditions:

• Epilepsy

• Traumatic Brain Injuries

Mental Health Conditions:

• Anxiety

• Depression

• PTSD

Neurodevelopmental Conditions:

• Autism

• ADHD

Common Misconceptions

"If you can't see it, it's not real."

All disabilities are real, even if you can't necessarily see them. Invisible conditions can still significantly impact a person's daily life, so don't assume that they are "fine".

"Mental health conditions are just an excuse."

Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD aren't excuses; they are real medical issues for those living with them. They require support and treatment just like any other disability.

"Invisible disabilities are rare."

There are millions of people across the UK living with or caring for someone with an invisible disability. They are much more common than people may realise, which is why it's so important that we raise awareness and support for these conditions.

What is Invisible Disabilities Week?

Invisible Disabilities Week is celebrated once a year in October to bring awareness, education, and support to family, friends, and the community for hidden disabilities. It was created by the Invisible Disabilities Association (IDA) in 2014 and has been celebrated every year since.

This year, Invisible Disabilities Week took place between the 18th and 24th of October. You can participate in many ways, such as spreading awareness on social media, sharing your personal stories, joining support groups, and getting the word out about invisible disabilities.

Support for Invisible Disabilities

Hidden Disabilities Charity

The Hidden Disabilities Charity is a charity based in Hull, committed to raising awareness and providing a supportive community for those with invisible conditions. They also provide clubs and events for those living with a disability to socialise and get active.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

The HD Sunflower supports hidden disabilities of all kinds. They also created the sunflower lanyard, which is a useful visual cue that discreetly acknowledges that the wearer has an invisible disability and may need support.
